What are the KLMN notations for K and Ca? Why is the third digit no greater than 8 for these elements???

Kshell - 1s

L. - 2s 2p

M. 3s 3p 3d

N. 4s 4p 4d 4f

For Na - 2,8,8,1

Ca - 2,8,8,2

K and Ca do not need 3d orbital which contains 10e- in M shell, and has higher energy.
