LAWS OF SIMPLE PENDULUM: -

1ST LAW :-

》 The first law of the simple pendulum states that the period of oscillation of a simple pendulum of constant length is independent of its amplitude, provided the amplitude is small.

2ND LAW :-

》The second law of simple pendulum states that the period of oscillation of a simple pendulum of constant length is independent of the size, shape , mass,and material of the bob, provided it is not very light, such as crock.

3RD LAW :-

》 The third law of the simple pendulum statesthat the time period of oscillation of a simple pendulum is directly proportional to the square root of the length of the pendulum, for a given place.

That is,

t \alpha \sqrt{l}

This equation can be written as,

 \sqrt{l} \div t = constant

On squaring the equation, we get

》L/T^2 = constant☆

Based on the laws of the simple pendulum and experimental results, the time period of a simple pendulum is given as

t = 2\pi \sqrt{l \div g}

Uses of Simple Pendulum:-

》Since the time period of a simple pendulum depends on the length and acceleration due to gravity at a given place, it is used to measure time in clocks that work on the principle of the simple pendulum. It is also used to determine the acceleration due to gravity at a place.

Explanation:

The period of a simple pendulum at a given place is given by

T=2πLg−−√

where L is the length of the simple pendulum and g is the acceleration due to gravity at that place. From the above expression, the laws of simple pendulum are as follows :

(1) Law of length : The period of a simple pendulum at a given place (g constant) is directly proportional to the aquare root of its length.

(2) Law of acceleration due to gravity : The period of a simple pendulum of a given length (L constant) is inversely proportional to the aquare root of the acceleration due to gravity.

(3) Law of mass : The period of a simple pendulum does not depend on the mass or material of the bob of the pendulum.

(4) Law of isochronous oscillations or law of isochronism : The period of a simple pendulum does not depend on the amplitude of oscillations, if the amplitude is small.
