The limitations are as follows----

1. The cost for setting up the required apparatus is very expensive

2. The tides or waves are unpredictable and are not constant

3. If tides or waves donot occurs, then no energy can be obtained

4. The release of thermal water or other harmful effluents on to oceans make the aquatic life suffer

5. Not as much effective because of probability in harnessing the energy

The different forms of energy that can be obtained from the ocean are tidal energy, wave energy and ocean thermal energy. Following are the limitations of the energy obtained from ocean are

\implies The relative positioning of the earth, the sun and the moon has an impact on the tidal energy.

\impliesFor the conversion of tidal energy into electricity, high dams are required.

\impliesTo obtain electricity from wave energy, very strong waves are required.

\impliesFor trapping the ocean thermal energy, there should be a temperature difference of more than 20°C between hot surface water and the cold water at a depth.
