Fundamental weaknesses in Gandhi's method, such as his concept of heart to heart communication and his religious metaphysic. Bhikhu said that he did not consider the idea of heart to heart communication to be a fundamental flaw. His basic flaw was his idea that there was something called the soul, and that the hatred and prejudices that surrounded it were preventing us from getting to it; if we did, we could touch the pure soul. Bhikhu did not believe in such a connection between the soul and exterior biases since prejudices permeated the core of one's being and there was no pure soul to activate.

What was going on here, Gandhi stated, was'surgery of the soul.' To get inside that soul, the nonviolent individual had to do this delicate operation, and Gandhi experimented all his life to figure out how to do it. It entailed researching the person's biography and history to determine what was his or her weak place, where humanity shined through. Gandhi's thought was based on this premise, but Bhikhu felt it to be troublesome. He found it impossible to believe in the soul, and even if he did, he believed it was contaminated by original sin, which Christians acknowledged better than Hindus.
