LIMITATIONS:

1) Newland's law of octaves was applicable to the classification of elements upto calcium only. thus, Newland's law of octaves worked well within lighter elements only.

2) Newland assumed that only 56 elements existed in nature and no more would be discovered in the future.

3) In order to fit elements into his table, Newland kept 2 elements together in one slot and that too

in the column of unlike elements with different properties.

4) example: CO and Ni were kept in the same slot as F, Cl and Br. whereas, Fe, which resembled CO and Ni was places far away.

HOPE IT HELPS YOU!!

The major limitations were: It applied to only lighter elements having atomic masses up to 40 u, i.e., up to calcium. The first and eighth elements after calcium did not have the same properties. Only 63 elements were considered to exist in nature, and no new elements would be discovered in the future.
