Living characteristics of Viruses :
1. Viruses have definite shape and morphology like that of a living organism.
2. They posses genetic material ( DNA or RNA) which determine their structure and development.
3. They show property of mutation.
4. They show irritability and respond to environmental conditions such as heat, humidity, etc.
Non-living characteristics of Viruses
1. Viruses have no complete cellular structure.
2. They do not show cellular metabolism and lack respiration.
3. They are active only when they are inside the living host cells. Outside the host, they are as good as chemical substances.
