Gandhiji's arguments against partition was taht the masses were in reality a united entity - they may have had different beliefs, faith and so on, but the past few centuries' experiences had led all of them to relate with each other in some way or the other.

Additionally, he denied the Muslim League's obnoxious presumption that Muslims were represented only by the League, because the Indian National Congress itself had great stalwarts, ex: Abul Kalam Azad, who were Muslims and yet could relate to any Indian.
