The main characteristics of Chota Nagpur – Damodar – valley Region :
- The climate of the 'Chota Nagpur plateau' in general is dry and bracing because of the height.
- December and January are the coldest months with the lowest minimum temperature 3 degrees to 6 degrees Celsius, while May and June record the maximum temperature of the year varying between '40 degrees' and 50 degrees Celsius.
- The region receives a greater share of annual rainfall from the south-west monsoon during the months of June to September.
- The 'Damodar river basin' (DRB) is a 'sub-basin' and it is the 'part of the Ganges River' spread about an area of bout 23, 370, 98 Km2 in the states of Jharkhand and West Bengal.
- The Damodar valley has big reserves of mica and coal, and the area is highly devoted as an industrial belt.
