A drainage basin form certain patterns which depends on the kind of slope of land, the underlying rock structure and climatic conditions of the area. The main patterns are dendritic, trellis, rectangular, and radial patterns. 1.A dendritic pattern develops in places where the river channel follows the slope of the terrain. 2. A trellis drainage pattern develops where hard and soft rocks exist parallel to each other and the river is joined at right angles by its tributaries. 3. A rectangular drainage pattern develops at a strongly jointed rocky terrain. 4. The radial pattern develops when streams flow in a number of different directions from a central peak.
