  1. These thick forests occur in the regions near the equator and close to the tropics.
  2. These regions are hot and recieve heavy rainfall throughout the year.
  3. As there is no dry season ,these trees do not shed their leaves altogether.
  4. This is why they are called evergreen forests.

The main features of tropical evergreen forests are :-

  1. High animal and vegetal biodiversity
  2. Evergreen trees
  3. Sparse Undergrowth interspersed with clearings
  4. Scarce present of Litters(organic matter settling on the ground)
  5. Presence of ‘Stranglers' ,creepers
  6. Presence of “buttresses"( i.e. large winged ribs at the base of a trunks) and spindly roots in trees living in often flooded areas.
