It provides a structure for all the body parts.

Functions of Skeletal System:

 Skeletal system forms supporting framework of the body.

 Provides shape to the body.

 Provides protection to delicate and vital organs like heart and lungs

 Haematopoiesis (formation of blood cells) occurs in red bone marrow.

 Movement of ribcage brings about breathing.  

 Mineral homeostasis: Excess of calcium and phosphate ions are deposited in bones whereas these ions are released by bones during deficiency.

 Storage of energy: Yellow bone marrow is rich in fat.

 Hearing: Ear ossicles help in propagating sound waves from external ear to internal ear.
