The vedic literature may be divided into two broad groups: the early vedic texts (1500-1000BC) when most of the hymns of rig Veda were composed and later vedic texts (1000-500 BC) to which belong the remaining Vedas and their branches. These sources are- the Brahmans, Aranyakas,Upanishads, The vedangas,Sutras,Upaveda,Darshanas,Dharmashastras,Ashtadhyayi and most important were the epics- The Ramayana and Mahabharata.
