Answer:

In the play 'The Proposal', written by Anton Chekhov, Ivan Lomov goes to Stephan Chubukov for proposing his daughter, Natalya Stepanovich for marriage. However, before he could tell Natalya anything about the proposal, they start argumenting on small issues. These arguments continue even after they marry each other.

The first one of these arguments was on the ownership of the Oxen Meadows, which touched the Birchwoods owned by Chubukov. Natalya says that the Oxen Meadows were theirs, they had been owning it for about 300 years, while on the same time Lomov corrects Natalya and says that the Meadows had been given by his aunt's grandmother to her (Natalya's) father's grandfather for cultivation for about 40 years. These arguments continue till the time Chubukov enters. After he enters, when asked, he supports Natalya and says that the Meadows were theirs. After much quarreling, Lomov gets frustrated and leaves.

Hope it Helps!!
