The Non Alignment Movement arose as result of the two Blocs formed during the cold war-Soviet Bloc and the US led Capitalist Bloc. The members of the Non Alignment Movement did not formally align with any of the two major powers. This ensured there was no military relationship with either of the two blocs. The movement helped unite all the developing countries into getting better treatment with the developed countries with respect to trade, development aid etc.
The following were the goals of Non aligned Movement:
a. To follow an independent foreign policy by not aligning with any of the power blocs
b. Policy of non alignment is anti-military alliances.
c. It does not mean isolation from World affairs rather playing an active role in mediating between the Soviet and American alliances.
d. It aims at promoting World Peace and friendly nations with all States.

g. It advocates disarmament and is opposed to the race of nuclear arms.
h. Non alignment calls for economic cooperation among the nation states and bridging the gap between developed and developing countries.
