the main reasons for the clearing of forests were
- the new demand for railways
- the british needed teak and oak for ship building
- the british encouraged growth of commercial crops like sugar and wheat.
- tea plantations,coffee plantations and rubber plantation
- british thought forests were unproductive and could be converted to agricultural land for revenue and crops.
