Shrinkage of forest area is due to the following reasons:
1. Lack of Land availability for settlement or cultivation purpose leading to DEFORESTATION, ENCROACHMENT, etc.
2. Commercial use- Forest based products like rubber, timber, fuel, paper, etc. are obtained from Forest resources leading to clearing of forest areas.
