The major cause of unemployment in India are:-

i) Rapid growth in Population: Indian population is already big and growing like anything. This put enormous amount of pressure on system to create adequate jobs..

ii) Educated mass: Since more and more people are getting educated hence we are facing more supply of people than demand. Below link shows the hge number for people who would be contesting for employment.

iii) Quality of education: This is another side of the problem. At the time when you have large no. of graduate people which itself is an issue, whether they have required skill. This presents a big set of people who are unfit for the job yet contribute in the numbers. Below link shows sorry state of education. Other courses are equally or in most case worse state.

iv) Poor Manufacturing base: In India we do not have large manufacturing sector which can employ good number of people, even of sub-standard quality. Hopefully government push for this sector would make some positive impact.

v) Societal pressure: This is another issue. Everyone is forced to do either medical or engineering irrespective of whether the person has requisite inclination or not. So many would join d-grade colleges and then end up with lo learning. This is another dimension.

Hope it helps.
