Today the major challenges faced by the Indian farmers are:
i) The growth rate in agriculture is decelerating.
ii) Our government is going ahead with reduction in the public investment in the agricultural sector, specially irrigation, power, rural roads, market and mechanization, which is a matter of serious concern for the Indian farmers.
iii) Subsidy on fertilizers is decreased which has led to an increase in their cost of production.
iv) Reduction in import duties on agricultural products, resulting in the withdrawal of investment in agriculture by farmers, causing a downfall in employment in agriculture.
