The drawbacks of Public Distribution System (PDS) :
1)Limited benefits to the poor:
Ration card holders can get benefit from PDS.But the poor seasonal labour, people who migrate do not have the Ration card as they so not have permanent address. They are left out of this system.
2)Regional Disparities :
Some regions are well developed while others are not;In some states, large number of families are below poverty line but the offtake from food grain through PDS's not accordingly .
3)Urban Bias:
Nearly 75% fair price shops are in rural areas but the offtake of food grains is more in urban areas . Transport in rural areas is not efficient as in the urban areas.
4)Insufficient Food Corporation of India:
It is duty of the FCI to provide food grains to be distributed through the PDS.But excess stock is not stored properly. So this creates a scarcity in spite of increase in production.
Hope it helps you!

Drawbacks of PDS are:
-> Irregular opening of ration shops.
-> Selling Good quality food in open market for good price.
-> Selling poor quality grains at ration shops.
-> FCI gowdowns are over filled with grains still people are sleeping hungry.
-> food in gowdowns is rotting away or rats are eating them.
