(i) Growing population Water scarcity is an outcome of large and growing populatioiF and consequent greater demands for water and unequal access to it.
(ii) Expansion of agriculture To facilitate higher food grain production, water resources, are being over-exploited to expand irrigated areas and dry season agriculture.
(iii) Industrialisation Industries apart from being heavy users of water, also require power to run them. Much of this energy comes from hydroelectric power.

we should do rain water harvesting
the irrigation pipes should be constructed properly to reduce the lickage of water
we should repair the licking taps
