Main sources of irrigation is different in each state. Like in UP where ganga and yamuna river is present so main source is canal irrigation.like wise in punjab
Whereas in Maharastra region, the amount of rainfall is quite good bcz of presence if arabian sea nearby therefore farmers stores water in pond and hse for irrigation purpose.
But in broader term, mainly pond as well as pump irrigation is widely used in India
