water elevated area such as mountain or upland which seperates two drainage basins.                                                                                                                      the Western Ghats act as waterdivide.it seperates east flowing rivers such as godavari, krishna, mahanadi, kaveri, vaigai, pennar which find its way to bay of bengal, from the west flowing rivers such as periyar, bharattapuzha, pamba netravathi, mandovi and zuari which drains in to the arabian sea.                                 The saptura range is also a water divide. South of narmada rift valley lies saptura and mahadev hills and both determine the direction of flow of the rivers. Narmada river orginates from north- eastern end of saptura and runs in the depression between saptura and Vindya ranges, draining the northern slope of saptura range, running west towards the arabian sea.
