The Government of India has taken several measures to counter the problems faced by small farmers. Some of the measures are as follows:
The Government provides very cheap insurance cover in the event of crop failure due to natural calamities, pests and diseases. The premium rates for coverage under Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana, are as low as 2% for all Kharif crops and 1.5% for all Rabi crops.
The Government has also launched the Paramparagat Krishi Vikas Yojana, aimed at focusing on the importance of soil and water quality, encourage organic farming and improve agricultural techniques.
The Government is implementing a number of projects in order to help the farmers for increasing the fertility of their farms by decreasing the cost of cultivation, producing the greater yield per unit and by achieving profitable prices.
