Vocal cords or vocal folds are the primary sound producing organs but lungs and articulators are also involved in the sound producing process. Lungs produce the adequate airflow and air pressure which is required to vibrate the vocal cords. Vibration of the vocal cords produce audible sounds and laryngeal muscles control the length and tension of vocal cords in order to produce sound of a particular tone and pitch. Articulators include tongue, palate, cheek, lips etc., filter the sound from the larynx and affect how the sound is heard or what type of audible sound is produced..
