1. everyone should be able to choose, that is, everyone should have one vote and each vote should have one value.

2. the candidate preferred by the people, whom the people really want to be elected should get elected.

3. elections should be conducted in a free and fair manner where people can choose what they really wish

4. there should be something to choose from. parties and candidates should be free to contest elections and should offer some real choice to the voters.

5. the choice should be offered at regular intervals. elections must be held regularly after every few years, like in India, elections are held after every 5 years.
