Mycelium is the vegetative part of a fungus or fungus like a bacterial colony , consisting of a mass of branching thread like hyphae .

Mycelium is the characteristic vegetative part of fungi that is formed of interwoven filamentous hyphae. Some bacteria also form mycelia like mass of filaments and are known as mycelial bacteria. For example, Streptomyces.
