Well we don't exactly see an object . We (brain) makes sense out of the light rays it receives on the retina. For example let's say there is an object right in front of you and it is daytime so you are able to see the object and in the night time will you be able to see the same object ?(complete darkness) …No you won't be able to ,but you should right ? The object is still right in front of you.

Technically when light hits on an object and rebounces it carries some sort of information (complicated) and these light rays hits your eye lens and which focuses it on your retina.

Our Brain being very powerful and complicated organ of ours can actually make sense out of these light rays , it inverts the images it receives from both the eyes merges them give us the 3D view of our surroundings and stiches 16–18 photos per second and make us feel everything around us is moving (like a video).

Another Important point

If the part of your brain which is responsible for your vision is removed or malfunctions , even though the light passes through your eye and falls on retina you won't be able to see anything.

Hope it helped you.
