Green revolution is the excessive production in agriculture using modern methods of farming such as use of HYV seeds etc.it was first introduced in late 1960s for the production of wheat and rice.It was first used by the farmers of punjab, haryana and northern utter pradesh. It promises to give high yield in a small plot of land then traditional methods, but on the other hand it have many disadvantages also such as:-
i)It require lots of use ofchemical fertilizers and pesticides which causes loss of fertility in soil.
ii)It requires good irrigation system.so regions with scarcity of water couldn't be able to get good yield with this
iii)it requires alot of water which leads to ground water degradation.
iv)This type of cultivation causes an undesirable loss in crop genetic diversity.
v)Because the Green Revolution required learning new water management skills, some farmers that didn't have these skills could not take full advantage of the new irrigation techniques.
