According to JB Nash, " Physical Education is that field of education which deals with big muscle activities and their related activities."

The main objective of Physical Education according to Leslie are as follows:

  • Neuro Muscular Development: This objective is centered with a better relationship between nervous system. It develops control and balance of the body. It also leads to development of reflexes.  Education provides ample opportunities for physical Neuro Muscular co-ordination.
  • Organic Development:  Through physical training the efficiency of organic systems like respiratory system, circulatory system, endocrine system, digestive system, muscular system and neuro-muscular system improves. These organic development lead to the development of physical fitness components like strength, speed, flexibility etc.  
  • Interpretive Development: Physical activities require alertness of mind , deep concentration and calculative movement. This objective is related to the interpretive development of an individual.
  • Emotional Development: The emotional development of an individual is also of the major objectives of physical education. Every individual as various kinds of emotions for instance, joy, jealousy, pleasure, anger, wonder, lust etc.
  • Social aspect of Development: This objective is related to the social traits which are essential for better adjustment in life. It is a good source for attaining qualities like co-operation, fair play, sportsmanship, tolerance and sympathy.
