It is one of the largest space governing agencies in the world, and comes under the Department of Space Governance in India.
ISRO has many accolades to its name, which include making India's first satellite Aryabhatta which was launched by Soviet Union, and also Rohini that was launched by an Indian carrier.
ISRO has also released Polar Satellite Launch Vehicles (PSLV) and Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicles (GSLV).
Under ISRO the first Indian mission to the moon Chandrayaan-1 was released in 2008.
2013 saw the release of the Mars Orbiter Mission and 2014 the announcement of five more satellite program.
