Bowman's Capsule

epithelial layer surrounding golmerulus

Glomerulus

ball of capillary involved in filtration of blood and keeps large particles( blood and proteins) out of filtrate; creates urine

Proximal Convoluted Tubule

first section of the renal tubule that the blood flows through; reabsorption of water, ions, soduimn choloride, potassium and all organic nutrients

Loop of Henle

has two parts ascending and descending;section of the nephron tubule that conserves water and minimizes the volume of urine

Distal Convoluted Tubule

Between the loop of Henle and the collecting duct; Selective reabsorption and secretion occur here, most notably to regulate reabsorption of water and sodium

Collecting Duct

A segment of the nephron that returns water form the filtrate to the bloodstream.

Anonymous: Dear collecting duct is not a part of nephron

The parts of a nephron are

Bowman's capsules

DCT

PCT

Loop of henle

Function of nephron

The main function of nephron is to regulate the concentration of water and soluble substances like sodium salts by filtering the blood, reabsorbing what is needed and excreting the rest as urine. A nephron eliminates wastes from the body, regulates blood volume and blood pressure, controls levels of electrolytes and metabolites, and regulates blood pH.
