CPU or Central Processing Unit, is also called the heart and brain of a computer.
- The CPU performs vital tasks like accepting an input, executing user instructions and processing the data as per the instructions issued by the users. It is the CPU that communicates with the input and output devices associated with the computer.
- The CPU is basically divided into two parts: ALU (Arithmetic and Logic Unit) and CU (Control Unit).
- The ALU is concerned with Arithmetic, Logical, and decision related tasks. The ALU consists of Registers which are internal memory units. For the information processing of ALU, the registers contain data, instructions, counters and so on.
- Control Unit performs the task of extracting instructions from memory and executing them. These instructions from the memory need to be first decoded.
