The Physical Classification Of Matter:

  • In the physical classification of matter it is classified into three types these are as follows Solids, Liquids and Gasses.

  • Solids: These are the particles that are tightly packed. They are close to each other.

  • Characteristics of solid is that it has definite shape meaning you cannot change the shape of the solid. It will stay the same shape.

  • They have definite volume too. Their volume does not change. It will always stay the same.

  • Example of solids are bricks, Glass etc. These materials show the property of solids.

  • Liquids they are a bit loosely packed than solids. They are not very close to each other.

  • Characteristics of liquids is that it does not have a definite shape the liquid takes up the shape of the container.

  • However, the volume of the liquid is always fixed. It does not change.

  • Example of liquids is the water, juices we drink.

  • Gasses the particles of gasses are very loosely packed. They move freely.

  • Characteristics of gasses is that it does not have a definite shape as the particles are very far away from each other. They occupy the shape of the container which they are put in example if you put the gas inside a balloon it will turn into the shape of the balloon.

  • It does not also have a fixed volume the volume varies in gasses. They are very different from the characteristics of solids and liquids.

  • Example of gasses are Oxygen, Sulphur Dioxide, Carbon Dioxide.
