                   Important physical property of metals

⇒Physical State : All the metal except mercury exist in solid state at room temperature.

⇒Lusture : All the metal have shiny appearance. This shiny appearance is known as metallic lusture , so metal are used for making jewellery and decorations.

⇒Malleability : The property of beating a metal with hammer into sheet is called malleability . Gold and sliver are most malleable metals.

⇒Ductility : The property that allow the metal to be drawn into thin wire is called ductility . Gold and silver are the most ductile metal , copper and aluminium wires are used in electric fittings.

⇒Conductivity : Metals are good conductor of heat and electricity . They quickly transmit heat from one end to another. Silver is the best conductor followed by gold , copper and aluminium . Lead (pb) is the poorest conductor of heat.

⇒Hardness : Metals are usually hard. It  is therefore, difficult to cut them but sodium , potassium and magnesium are soft metals and thus are easily cut with the help of knife.

⇒Melting and boiling points : Metals generally have high melting points and boiling point but sodium and potassium metals have low melting and boiling points.
