The poem The Village Blacksmith is a kind of ballad as referred to by Longfellow himself. The poem is a different kind of ballad as the poem does not have a dramatic theme  and uses descriptive paragraphs in place.

Unlike in common ballads where in we would find some turning point or climatic event we don’t find anything like that in the poem The Village Blacksmith.
