Answer:
What’s your motivation?
The world of comping is fun, but it can be amazingly frustrating if you expect too much from it. The most important advice I can give you is to see wins as a bonus and not a result. If you expect too much, it’s likely that you will become defeatist. I find that if you have a particular motivation to win, you’re much less likely to give up.
As I explain on my about me page, my motivation is to provide a life for my family that disability has somewhat taken from me. Of course, the motivation doesn’t have to be that deep, but for example, a family birthday could be great motivation. Your desire to win something lovely for them can often prevail when you feel like giving up. Especially if you couldn’t otherwise afford such a gift.Enter closing soon competitions first
Every day I enter competitions using five main competition listing sites, which I talk about here. First I sift through each site using the closing soon filter. This ensures that I don’t miss out on anything closing that day. I’ll then move onto newer competitions in my desired categories, if I have the time. If I don’t have the time, repeating the previous step will ensure I don’t miss out on them.Don’t waste your time
This might seem like an obvious thing to say, but please don’t waste your time entering competitions that you’re not interested in. It’s very easy to get carried away and enter every giveaway you find. I know, I’ve been there. It’s not very fair to the other entrants who might genuinely want to win, but it also reduces your chance of wining what you do want. If you think about winning in terms of statistics, then if you enter to win prizes you don’t want, this is just reducing the chance of winning what you do!
I also always avoid entering competitions on certain sites that provide very remote chances of winning. I’ve written a whole post about this, so click the link above to find out why.
