New Zealanders are no strangers to disaster, tragedy, and the long struggle of recovery. But here in the South Pacific, we are used to very different sort of disaster. We have felt the whip of cyclones, and the rumble of earthquakes. We have seen the terrible impact of natural disasters on our friends in Fiji, Vanuatu, Tonga, and Samoa. We know only too well how the impact can be.But our recovery, as long and painful as it may be, is a peaceful one. When we rebuild, we don't have to worry about mortars, or cholera, or starvation.
