What are the possible remedies to environmental degradation?

Population stabilization and reduction. We need to stabilize (stop growth) our population and then begin to reduce it with good planning. Birth control and education are key to this. Also a global birth control policy would really help. Something like a global 2 child policy with people not allowed to have children until all their grandparents died. This is the single most important step since overpopulation is our greatest problem. Countries which use more ecological footprint than they have locally, including the USA and UK are overpopulated (1). We need a surplus of resources to make room for other species as well as ourselves.
