The following were the postulates put forward by Neil Bohr :-

• Out of innumerable number of possible orbits surrounding the nucleus, the electron rotates only in certain fixed, selected or permissible orbit.

• As long as the electron rotates in one of these selected orbit, it neither radiates nor absorb any energy.

• Electron may jump from one permissible orbit of lower energy to that one of higher energy and thereby a definite quantum of energy is absorbed or vice versa.

The Bohr model postulates that electrons orbit the nucleus at fixed energy levels. Orbits further from the nucleus exist at higher energy levels. When electrons return to a lower energy level, they emit energy in the form of light.
