1.It is an independent body which conducts all the elections and controls all the activities
2.it lays down the code of conduct that bounds all the candidates and parties so that they cannot use and misuse the governmental powers
3.the govt.officials works under the c.e.c. during the election period and under the govt.
4.once the c.e.c. is elected by the president it is not answerable to the president or govt.
