In a country like India the following are the powers of a president:
1. The president is the union and its chief executive
2. He supervises all activities of the government
3. All laws and orders are issued in the name of a president.
4. All major decisions are made by the president
5. He is the supreme commander of defence forces
6. Bill becomes a law after his signature.

The President of India is elected by the MLA's of all the states and members of both the houses of parliament.
In Indian constitution , the honourable President has been assigned with many powers which can be classified as follows:
1. Executive power
2. Legislative power
3. Financial power
4. Judicial power
5.emergency power
Executive power:
The honourable President of India has the power to appoint :
Governer of all states, Judges of supreme and high court,and Prime minister and his cabinet members.
THE Honourable President of India is a supreme commander in chief for Indian army, navy and Air force and therefore he has power to declare war based on situation.
Legislative power:
The President of India is an integral part of parliament which consist of two houses loka Sabha and Rajya Sabha.
After all the bills are passed by parliament they can come into force only when President gives his assent by signing them.
Financial powers:
Annual budget will be presented before President first for his approval.
Judicial power:
The honourable President of India can grant or pardon punishment to any person who has been convicted by a court.
Emergency power:
Under some emergency situation President can implement Presidential rule for example: any Security threat for country or Any state government dissolves due to some unavoidable situations.
