Always add the more concentrated acid slowly to water as diluting with release a lot of heat.
You should wear safety glasses to protect eyes from any splashes, gloves to protect your skin from the corrosive effect and a lab coat to protect your clothes.
If we were writing a risk assessment, we’d also work in a tray to contain any spills, work in a fume hood for concentrated acids due to corrosive fumes.
Labs usually contain a spill kit for acids or a dilute solution of sodium bicarbonate.
