After getting independence in 1948,The newly democratically elected government in Srilanka established several majoritarian measures rooting Sinhala supremacy in Srilanka. 1)In 1956,an act was passed ,establishing Sinhala as the Ocial language of the country. No impotance was given to tamil language. This created a feeling alienation among the Srilankan tamils. 2)The governments followed preferential policies that favoured the Sinhala applicants for university positions and government jobs. 3)The government of Srilanka stated that they shall foster and protect buddism as their state religion disregarding any other religions.
