As we are speaking of democracy, so it is obvious that there are certain prerequisites that are expected to be met by the political parties. In general, these prerequisites are common and it is expected that any political party, who wants to compete for general elections, should in fact meet.

These prerequisites are as follows:-

1. For parties that are competing at the state level (state party) it is obvious that the party has to be recognized in at least four distinct states. The more the better!

2. In case any of the party that is competing and in general campaign has to try and win at least minimum of 2 percent seats if they are competing for Lok Sabha general elections. It is also expected that the party has to compete in at least 3 or more states.

3. In case the party is competing from four or more number of states for the general lok sabha elections then they should win with at least 6 percent or more by majority of seats.

For regional parties it is certain that they need to be functional in at least two states representing all their interest.
