Women have been facing problems both in the ancient and modern era though the nature of the problems have differed. In ancient era, women were not allowed to move out of the four walls of the house. They were not given the privilege of education and were deprived of all social and political rights. In India, women were the victims of social evils like sati, child marriage, dowry, female infanticide etc. In modern era also women face problems inspite of the fact that they are being given social and political rights and have the privilege of education.Women are still victims of sexual harassment and rape by men, domestic violence etc. They are also not kept on equal pedestal like men especially in India as their numbers are less in case of political representation compared to men.
