Surface flow continues as usual without the underground system getting recharged. Also gradually, the water storage capacity of the Tungabhadra dam is lost.

Problems. Industrial pollution has damaged the Tungabhadra River. Industry and mining on its banks in the Chikkamagaluru, Shimoga, Davangere, Haveri, Bellary, Koppal, Raichur districts of Karnataka and Kurnool district of Andhra Pradesh generate enormous amounts of effluents.
