It becomes difficult for people within the country to communicate with each other since there are many languages and hence they cannot talk in a specific common language.

The media is also another concern, because where there is a lack of social cohesion, a newspaper or some such can be quite destructive.

But the divide between cultural groups, I think, is the biggest issue. That’s a breeding ground for racism and all sorts of other -isms. Unfortunately, you don’t need many languages to do that.
