Hey there,
A common man understanding of respiration is intake of oxygen of air and release of CO2 which infact a kind of gaseous exchange. The scientific meaning of respiration is comlex process involving
1)gaseous exchange i.e intake of oxygen from the atmosphere and release of carbon dioxide,
2)break down of simple food in order to release energy inside the cell .Thus, the two separate processes may be termed as:a)breathing and b)cellular respiration.
BREATHING is a kind of ventilation in which the organisms take oxygen from the environment and release carbon dioxide.
CELLULAR RESPIRATION is much more complex process that occurs inside the living cells.
Hope this helps u!
