→ Properties of alluvial soil are :

  • Alluvial soil is a very fertile soil which is very good for agriculture.

  • Mostly these soils contain adequate proportion of potash, phosphoric acid and lime which are ideal for the growth of the sugarcane, paddy, wheat, and other cereal and pulse crops.

  • These soils are highly fertile. Therefore, regions of the soil are intensively cultivated and thickly populated.

  • This soil contributes greatly in agricultural developments.

  • Alluvial soil is light to dark in colour.

  • According to their ages this soil is classified into two types:

    1)  Khadar :  Known as new alluvial soil.

    2) Bangar  :    Known as old alluvial soil.

  • Alluvial soil are deposited by three important Himalayan river systems : The Indus , The Ganga , The Brahmaputra.

  • It is found in the deltas of the Mahanadi , The Godavari , The Krishna and The Kaveri.

  • Alluvial soil contains sand, silt and clay.

  • It is commonly found in riverbed and flood plains.

  • These soils don'not develop cracks in the dry or hot seasons.
