Properties of Equipotential Surfaces(E.S.):
1. ES never intersect each other.
2. ES are closely spaced in a region of higher electric field intensity and vice versa.
3. ES is normal to the direction of electric field due to any charge configuration.
4. No work is done to move a test charge on an ES.

  • No work done in moving a charge between any two point on Equipotential surface.
  • The electric field and hence line of force are everywhere at right angle to the Equipotential surface.
  • In a family of Equipotential surfaces the surfaces are closer together where the electric field are stronger and further apart where weaken.
  • No two Equipotential surface can intersect each other.
